Koi wants to encourage new, emerging graphic and photographic artists who desire the opportunity to share their creativity with the public. We have incorporated dedicated, illuminated art walls in our room design to feature and enhance the artist’s work. We provide this wall space free of charge to the exhibiting artist. Koi also hosts openings or receptions for exhibiting artists.

If you are interested in displaying your work in our space, contact: info@cafekoi.com.

Current Artist

Jay Robinson

I started my art career in the winter of 2011 in the middle of Manitoba, Canada. While living in a very old character home in a small town, I set up a studio and I was drawn to learn the human form. I started drawing female nudes and a few feeble rough amateur style portraits, abstract acrylics and doing custom art installations, selling and giving away my work.

While living in Nelson, BC the following year, I set up shop at farmers markets and festivals showing my work. A great honour was bestowed upon me by a request to show at Artists without Borders. This featured over 100 artists from the Kootenay area and also upper US. It showcased in Creston and all over the region for three weeks in the summer of 2012.

I lost the urge to draw again until the summer of 2014. Slowly picking up pencils and drawing nudes again. I created an Instagram account and Facebook under my artist name generating a small fan base. It was one of the Instagram friends that would change my art career forever.

In June 2015, I went on a life changing trip to Europe, visiting the Louvre, and many other museums through Amsterdam, Prague and Paris. I also had the honour of donating my time to a 6mx2m wall acrylic and canvas mural in Amsterdam. This piece was based on pointillism, capturing the very essence of what the client was looking for in that space.

During the Production of Loveland YYC- the World Peace of Art show in Oct 2016, I decided to attend Momentum Business School to promote my art business.

l am grateful to have my first own art show during November 12-Dec 10/17 at Cafe Koi located at 1011 1st St SW, Calgary AB.
